In a recent study, 91 percent of Americans said that they still believe owning a home is essential or important to achieving the ‘American Dream.’ Not only do homeowners feel pride and accomplishment when owning, they also experience other positive impacts. The National Association of Realtors reported these findings:

  • Homeowners are found to be generally happier and healthier than non-owners, even after controlling for factors such as income and educational levels.
  • Homeowners are often more involved in their communities than renters, and feel more of a sense of belonging and pride for their community and home.
  • Homeownership makes a significant positive impact on educational achievement.
  • Homeowners feel safer and more secure when owning versus renting.
  • Homeowners love having control over their renovations, updates and styles. You can design and decorate your home however you wish. Let the painting parties ensue!
  • Homeowners often have more space than renters. This isn’t always the case, but because homeownership is often more affordable than renting, you may find that you can afford more square footage or a better neighborhood when you buy.

So why should you buy a Philly home this winter? The better question is why not?! You clearly have reasons for wanting to buy, whether financial, personal or both, so why put that off? It’s time to move on with your life and achieve your dreams!

More reasons to buy now:

1.  Home prices will continue to rise. They’ve risen 7.0 percent over the last 12 months and are predicted to rise another 4.7 percent over the next year. The sooner you buy, the more you could save!

2.  Mortgage rates are projected to increase. So again, the sooner you buy, the more you could save. Buying when rates are low can save you a significant amount of money over a long period.

3.  Either way, you’re paying a mortgage. If you want to buy for financial reasons, the sooner you buy, the sooner you save. Stop paying your landlord’s mortgage and start investing in your own future!

4.  Competition is lighter. There are still numerous buyers active on the Philly real estate market, but that number will only increase come spring. Serious sellers are selling now. Don’t wait to begin the process!
