Where to Celebrate 4th of July in Philly

Philly 4th of July

Celebrate the 4th of July in Philly, America’s birthplace!

If you’d like to celebrate the 4th of July with a bang this year, Philly is the place to be. It is, after all, America’s birthplace! The Wawa Welcome America celebration runs from June 29 through July 4 and is one of the largest, free celebrations in the country! As your Philly real estate team, we’re here to fill you in with important basics, so you don’t miss a beat of the fun during the upcoming summer festivities.

Six full days of celebrating will feature concerts, free museum days, four fireworks shows, block parties, parades and more. Altogether, more than 50 free events take place citywide as part of Wawa Welcome America!

If fireworks are what you seek, catch a show over the Delaware River on June 30, July 1 or July 4, or above the Philadelphia Museum of Art on July 4. All of the shows will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. The best places for viewing the Delaware River Waterfront shows include One Liberty Observation Deck, SugarHouse Casino, Penn’s Landing Piers and Spruce Street Harbor Park.

New this year, those who like to celebrate with a few spirited beverages have many options! Happy hours will be offered on June 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Moshulu, Art Bar at the Sonesta, City Tap House Logan, Café Cret and Midtown Continental. Select locations will also be offering a Red, White and Brunch on July 2. Culture on Tap will bring a pop-up al fresco drinking area to the courtyard at City Hall.

Then there is all that takes place on the actual July 4th holiday! Party on the Parkway takes place from 12 to 7 p.m., with five blocks of free entertainment! Enjoy a zipline, outdoor games, arts and crafts, musical performances, dancing, children’s activities, cultural events and tons of food and beverages.

At 7 p.m. on July 4th, the Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert will begin! This is a free outdoor concert headlined by Mary J. Blige this year. Performing along with her will be the Philly POPS Big Band, jazz singer Tony DeSare, Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez and Boyz II Men as they’re honored for their career. Lots of big names to see in Philly this year, and it’s all FREE!

To finish the night, a free fireworks display will begin around 9:30 p.m., directly following the concert. The fireworks show will take you through a 241-year journey from July 4, 1776 to July 4, 2017! A soundtrack will run along with the fireworks, including patriotic music and powerful quotes.

This is just a tiny selection of all that is taking place in the next week for Wawa Welcome America! Check out this UWISHUNU article or this Visit Philly article for more info. What part of this celebration do you look forward to most? Leave a comment and share!
